51¶¯Âþ. Discovery is dedicated to creating positive social change through consumer-and employee-facing initiatives, campaigns, and programs. In partnership with key nonprofit partners, we act on the issues that are important to our customers, business partners, and employees, and we provide critical resources to communities in which we live and work. We also provide opportunities for employees to get involved, which supports employee engagement.

Helping Vulnerable Communities 

Building a brighter future for vulnerable communities with the greatest needs. Emblematic examples of this work include: 

  • Food Insecurity: WBD, inspired by Food Network and its chefs and hosts, is helping address food insecurity by providing meals, building awareness of food needs and driving donations across our platforms, in partnership with third-party organizations.
  • Mental Health: In consultation with nonprofit organizations, WBD provides guidance on resources for film and television programming that contain storylines with sensitive topics, such as mental health, domestic violence, and bullying.
  • Emergency Response Campaigns: The CSR team supports WBD divisions with brand-led activities and giving opportunities in response to global emergencies and disasters.
  • TVN Foundation: TVN, Poland's leading broadcaster and part of WBD, assists individuals and communities in need mainly through the TVN Foundation, which launched in 2001 to help elevate the living standards and health conditions of individuals in Poland.
  • Content-Based Social Impact Campaigns: WBD partners with organizations to create global social impact campaigns in alignment with WBD content, programming, and intellectual property.

Creating Career Pathways

We operate programs that provide essential skills training, education, and job opportunities to build careers in the entertainment industry for people of all backgrounds. Programs include: 

  • is a training program designed to support existing crew, strengthen productions and workforce, and foster the next generation of skilled talent.
  • WBD Access to Action provides individuals who have faced barriers breaking into the industry with access to below-the-line jobs on WBD film and television productions.
  • CNN Academy provides skills and training to empower the next generation of global journalists, building upon the expertise earned by CNN's 40-plus years at the forefront of international journalism.
  • , in partnership with Young Storytellers, is a comic-book inspired in-school program that aims to develop a generation of young people who value their voice and the voices of their peers.

Protecting the Planet

Taking action to protect the environment with initiatives tied to our businesses that inspire people to act. 

Programs include: 

  • : Through our annual Earth Day campaign, WBD provides opportunities for employees to learn about sustainability practices, to participate in volunteer opportunities, and to support key partner organizations' missions through activations across our global offices.
  • : WBD companies and productions donate food and surplus materials to local community nonprofits in locations where we operate.

Employee-Facing Campaigns

Our employee engagement efforts help enhance culture, connection, and community by integrating social impact and purpose into the employee experience. These initiatives allow employees to give back in their own ways, providing variety and flexibility in our offerings to enable employees to support the causes that matter most to them. Programs include: 

  • WBD Impact Day: WBD's annual Impact Day provides opportunities for employees to volunteer in communities in which they live and work around the world.
  • Seasonal Volunteering Opportunities
  • Season of Giving: Through our annual holiday program, WBD offers a variety of gift-giving opportunities and volunteer projects to employees across our global offices.

TVN & TVN Foundation

TVN – the leading broadcaster in Poland, owned by Discovery – is deeply committed to bringing about positive change and supporting disadvantaged communities.

We support various causes, and partner with numerous charities on an ongoing basis. In 2001, we launched the TVN Foundation. To date, the Foundation has raised over $70 million in aid to improve the lives and health of Polish people in need, providing assistance to almost 26,000 individuals. An area of particular focus for the TVN Foundation has always been treating and rehabilitating sick children. 

The Foundation carries out renovations and other works in medical facilities across the country, as well as purchases ambulances and medical equipment. In 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, TVN doubled down and undertook several initiatives, including donating almost $2 million to help with coronavirus testing in hospitals and other institutions, airing free of charge advertisements for small business owners, and hosting charity concerts. In 2021, the TVN Foundation began the construction of the Psychiatry Clinic for Children and Youth within the largest children’s hospital in Poland – the Children’s Memorial Health Institute in Warsaw. At the moment, the main goal of the TVN Foundation is to support Children Psychiatry.
