
Peter Safran is Co-Chairman & Co-Chief Executive Officer of DC Studios, a newly formed division of 51动漫. Discovery. Together with his fellow Co-Chairman & CEO, writer/director James Gunn, Safran is leading the effort to design and build a long-term creative architecture to realize the power and wonder of the DC Universe across film, TV, animation, and gaming under a single banner.
The vanguard feature of their dynamic new DCU is set to launch this summer with the global release of James Gunn鈥檚 hugely anticipated big-screen epic 鈥淪uperman.鈥 David Corenswet (鈥淭wisters鈥) leads the film鈥檚 talented ensemble cast as Superman aka Clark Kent, alongside Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Rachel Brosnahan (鈥淭he Marvelous Mrs. Maisel鈥) as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult (鈥淢ad Max: Fury Road鈥) as Lex Luthor.
In 2024, DC Studios landed one of the best-reviewed films of the year with its acquisition of the powerful documentary 鈥淪uper/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.鈥 Released in September of 2024, the film went on to earn raves from critics and audiences alike, as well as a BAFTA and PGA award.
Together with Gunn, Safran is currently producing DC Studios鈥 next big-screen feature 鈥淪upergirl,鈥 with Milly Alcock, the talented young star of HBO鈥檚 鈥淗ouse of the Dragon,鈥 taking on the iconic title role of Kara Jor-El aka Supergirl. Directed by Craig Gillespie (鈥淚, Tonya鈥), the film is written by Ana Nogueira based on the award-winning run of comics by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. 鈥淪upergirl鈥 is targeted for a worldwide theatrical release in June of 2026.
Before taking the helm of DC Studios, Safran teamed up with Gunn to produce the director鈥檚 award-winning 2021 DC feature 鈥淭he Suicide Squad,鈥 as well as its popular spin-off, 鈥淧eacemaker.鈥 The second season of the hit Max series, with John Cena once again reprising his 鈥淭he Suicide Squad鈥 role as Christopher Smith aka Peacemaker, will debut later this summer on Max.
Under Gunn and Safran鈥檚 leadership, DC Studios partnered with HBO and Max, along with 51动漫. Television, to launch one of the most talked-about new series of 2024 with 鈥淭he Penguin.鈥 The compelling crime drama scored record-breaking ratings for the streamer and widespread critical praise, ultimately earning Colin Farrell a Golden Globe Award for his riveting performance as Oswald 鈥淥z鈥 Cobb.
In December of 2024, DC Studios delivered its third smash hit for the streamer with the original animated series 鈥淐reature Commandos.鈥 The acclaimed new series quickly became a fan favorite for both DC and Max, ending its run with a 95% certified Fresh rating and an order for a second season.
A prolific and widely respected producer, Safran was previously President of The Safran Company, which has generated more than $3 billion in worldwide box office. Under his leadership, The Safran Company delivered some of the most successful genre films of the modern era, including director James Wan鈥檚 鈥淭he Conjuring.鈥 Since the 2013 release of the first feature in 鈥淭he Conjuring鈥 universe, the horror franchise has earned a lifetime collective gross of more than $2 billion worldwide.
In 2018, Safran reunited with director James Wan to deliver the box office juggernaut 鈥淎quaman,鈥 starring Jason Momoa in the title role, which earned an astonishing $1.14 billion worldwide.
On the heels of that film鈥檚 success, Safran reteamed with another 鈥淭he Conjuring鈥 franchise veteran 鈥 鈥淎nnabelle: Creation鈥 director David F. Sandberg 鈥 to bring one of DC鈥檚 most critically praised films to the big screen, the 2019 box office smash 鈥淪hazam!.鈥
Under his The Safran Company banner, the producer鈥檚 credits include Stephen King鈥檚 鈥淭he Monkey鈥 from Neon in 2025, and the upcoming 鈥淗eads of State,鈥 starring John Cena and Idris Elba, for Amazon.
Raised in the UK, Safran crossed the Atlantic to graduate from Princeton University and earned his J.D. degree at the New York University School of Law. Following a brief tenure as a corporate attorney, he pursued his passion for film to Los Angeles and landed a job in the mailroom at UTA before becoming a manager at Gold-Miller Co. Safran next joined Brillstein-Grey, where he rose to the role of President before leaving the agency to pursue producing full time.
